🎃 👻 Halloweekend! 👻 🎃

When Halloween inconveniently falls in the middle of the week, we get to celebrate the holiday on the weekends before and after the 31st. A lot of people joke that LC celebrates a little bit of Halloween all year round with our Orange and Black colors, and around this time of year there are lots of fun events on and off campus to celebrate the holiday and have some fall fun.

This time of year is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful times of year to be on campus. There are so many huge trees around and all of them are turning different shades from vibrant yellows to deep reds. The cobblestone paths are strewn with picturesque leaves, and the stately Frank Manor house fits right in with all of this. The weather is still mostly sunny but the air is cool and crisp and when it does rain the grey skies and the mist air fit perfectly with the fall leaves. It's just the best time of year. On top of this beauty, many people and different departments like to decorate for Halloween so it adds a charming celebratory atmosphere to everything. There are decorative gourds and pumpkins all over and various Halloween decorations stick to doors and windows all throughout the dorms. Some campus departments have really gone all out and have spiderwebs and caution tape (and free candy) adorning every surface.

A couple different organizations are doing activities throughout the week to celebrate. Here's an idea of wats going on this week:

  • There's a door decorating competition all across campus with different themed categories for who can have the best door.
  • There was the Gagged Halloweeen drag show held in the platteau that was jam packed that also doubled as a fundraiser for a LGBTQ youth group
  • There was the "Spookyburn" concert held in the coop (the name is a reference to the anual Sunburn music event at LC) and it featured local artists and student performers
  •  This weekend was also homecoming and parents weekend so there was a lot of activity on campus with families visiting and people coming for the football game saturday
  • There's also a pumpkin carving event going on monday night put on by Campus Activities Board, and theres prizes for the best pumpkins
  • Next weekend is Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and the Spanish club has a whole list of events to honor the Mexican holiday.
    • These include a trip to a Hispanic art center
    • A trip to a Latin American film festival, a night of baking
    • A showing of cocoa,
    • Building Altares for deceased relatives
    • And a night of bachata and salsa dancing

Depending on what you're interested in, there's always lots of different events going on and so much to do you won't be able to pick what you want.
