Feeding Myself

Spring break has begun, and so has the starvation because the school cafeteria during spring break is not counted for in the meal plan! Like everyone else, of course, our workers deserve a break. I have done my grocery shopping for the few days I will be on campus during spring break, and here are some of the essentials I advise you get!

  • pasta
There are so many types of pasta, but the classic I go for is this:
The shape is perfect to capture any sauce that falls in, though it isn't as fun as the bow shape to eat (that one is hard to cook evenly, unfortunately). The beauty of pasta is its variety - you can buy any sauce you like and just mix it up with your cooked pasta, maybe even some chicken if you're feeling skilled.
A personal favorite of mine to spice up pasta is after cooking it, put it on a pan with butter and some seasoning. Is it Gordon Ramsey-level food? No. Does it to the job? Yes. This brings me to my next point:
  • Butter.
Any butter works, but Id recommend the unsalted one. What if you're in the mood for baking? You can use it for cooking, baking, spreading it on a bagel, making sauces, spicing up your scrambled eggs... Butter is amazing.
  • Flip yogurt cups

So many flavors... My mouth is watering. I stacked up on a few great flavors: peanut butter cup, cookie dough, salted caramel... Nothing too healthy oops. I always see some great discounts for this and it gives options for many of my cravings. Goes great as a snack or a side for breakfast food. A good alternative is just getting yogurt and granola.
  • Bagels (or any packaged bread type)
You can find many packs of prepared bagels, that you can either eat straight out of the bag or pop in the oven for a bit. Either way a great option for breakfast food, accompanied by that butter.
  • Microwave noodles
For lunch or dinner, these ONE DOLLAR noodles are an amazing option. You pop them in the microwave for a bit, and you have a full meal for yourself. A college budget indeed.

  • Pancake (or oats) in a cup
Do you see how much I love the microwave? These are also very simple - add some water, stir, cook for a few minutes - ENJOY! Perfect for the sweet tooth, breakfast, and even supposedly have some protein. Somewhat affordable I'd say, depends on how much you need to eat to feel full. If you want to go all out, I suggest adding a piece of chocolate on top while it is still hot, so it melts beautifully... I am craving it again now.
  • Microwave mac & cheese
There are so many types, brands and so on that are available - but I am again sticking with a safe classic. A light delicious dinner, well delicious when you're very hungry.

If you haven't noticed by now, this list was made by a horrible cook, for other fellow horrible cooks. A microwave is our best friend.

My final advice:

Get the UberEats One free trial. Seriously. You get free delivery on a bunch of restaurants and promo codes for signing up. Treat yourself to some good food after absorbing all this tasty junk I've recommended.

Have a great spring break!
